NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ASIAN HORNETS! Check your property's walls and roofs carefully for nests. Do your part and contact our office if there is a nest so we can get it removed.
Contrary to popular belief, the Asian Hornet is a native bug in the Maltese Islands, it has been around since time immemorial. However It started appearing in great numbers partly because it is adapting to our urban surroundings and also due to the increasingly hotter climate. The Asian Hornet builds its hive in holes located in bricks, walls, and ventilation spaces. It is also attracted to food that is often discarded by humans. It also preys on other insects, unfortunately bees included. The hornet has a powerful sting and is able to do so several times. One should seek medical attention if stung repeatedly. Keep your distance and try not to panic. It will strike if they become fearful, so keep your cool, don't approach too closely, and keep moving. See if you can spot them coming and exiting from the same entrance, that probably is their hive location. DO NOT ALLOW your pet to approach the hornets. Check your property's walls and roofs carefully for nests. Do your part and contact our office if there is a nest so we can get it removed. The Asian Hornet can fly great distances in search of food and has an obsession with moist organic food. So, whoever feeds animals outside must ensure that they remove any leftover wet food. All organic waste must be bagged and sealed; none should be left spread out.
